What are the latest cozy fall home decor trends from IKEA? The brand new collection Omtanksam (which means thoughtful in Swedish) is part of the Highland Heritage trend that IKEA is introducing just in time for autumn.
Featuring deep luscious colors like slate and green the collection evokes the Scottish moors and highlands at their finest. Paired with bright splashes of gold and creamy grays this color palette makes it easy to recreate a warm inviting vibe in your home too.
It’s not hard to imagine wind swept lochs and moors at your doorstep if you let your imagination run free. Perhaps Downton Abbey in the Highlands, complete with a cozy fireplace to curl up to of course!
Here’s how you can easily combine any of these colors, textures and patterns to create rooms you’ll want to snuggle and gather in all winter long. Of course because it’s IKEA you don’t have to break the budget to get the look you want.
Here’s my picks for the 10 best fall home decor products from IKEA.
The 10 Best Fall Home Decor Products from IKEA
1. OMTÄNKSAM ARMCHAIR
If you’re looking for a modern interpretation of a wingback chair, the Omtänksam may be the perfect fit. This new upholstered armchair with footstool is featured in a snug grey flannel and could easily fit into a modern or transitional room.
The attached head pillow adds a new level of cosy comfort and there’s even handy armrest pockets to store remotes and glasses. The high arms make it easier for anyone to get up out of the chair and the high back is ideal support for reading.
Recently I was shopping for just this high back style chair but ended up choosing the STRANDMON in the Tallmyra Blue. I really wanted a pop of blue to go with my pillows. If you’ve got a neutral sofa in white, off white or cream like the EKTORP, FARLOV, GRONLID OR VIMLE the charcoal grey OMTANKSAM chair would work perfectly. The FARLOV has that slight flared arm that would pair well with OMTANKSAM.
Pretty contrasting accessorizes would be the deep gold pillow cover SAGALIE, and the ORMHASSEL or ANTOINETTA throw (left to right).
2. OMTÄNKSAM SIDE CHAIR
Omtänksam Side Chair is available in 3 accent colors Anthracite (black), Light Grey and Yellow (above). The curved back and seat adds comfort and the styling works easily with Farmhouse, modern or even traditional tables. The curved back shape is also ideal for kids and grandparents to hold onto as they get up and sit down.
Love this yellow gold color! Pair these chairs with the MOCKLEBY dining table for a fun way to bring color into your room.
It’s the perfect way to bring a pop of cheery sunshine into your dining room. If your living space is open to the kitchen and dining this color is the ideal way to pull any gold accents you have in the living area (accent pillows, throws) over into your dining/kitchen!
The Kaveldun is a bold checked throw in grey and cream which is perfect to pull together your cozy farmhouse lodge look. Can you see this draped over the back of a cream, gray or gold sofa?
At approximately 4′ x 6′ it’s a generous size to snuggle under and with 55% wool it’s also warm and toasty!
I love a chunky pattern to create a bold focal point and this check would easily mix with pattern pillows in almost any color, but especially yellow/gold and off white.
Nothing adds a touch of the outdoors like a cow hide rug. Koldby is available in brown/white and a dark gray/black. It’s generously sized at just 32+ square feet so plenty big enough to lay in front of a couch or even under a dining room table. You don’t have to live in the mountains or country to add a touch of the wild to your living space and this makes a fabulous focal point in a room.
Think about a rug pad underneath especially if you’re laying it over wood or tile floors.
The KOLDBY gets great reviews too, although some noted a slight tanning smell. Some reviewers mentioned throwing it in the washing machine when it got dirty!
If you’re worried about keeping the fur clean, another option is TORSTED, which has a muted warm gray hide that’s more hide than hair.
The Lommarp is a rustic inspired cabinet that comes in this delicious deep green color and in cream. The LOMMARP collection includes this glass fronted cabinet, a cabinet with two doors and drawer, a low TV media cabinet, a desk and a bookcase.
The slightly art nouveau, arts and crafts feel is super transitional and would work with your other modern to traditional pieces. Can’t you see this in your open plan kitchen dining room displaying your pretty dish ware inside?
The only downside is the main material it’s constructed of is fiberboard. 🙁 Drawer sides and backs are in wood.
6. STORAGE BASKETS
My picks for the best IKEA baskets to add that touch of farmhouse or outdoorsy charm. Use them in your kitchen to organize bottles and packets or on a desk or sideboard for drink glasses, napkins and whatever!
Make an impromptu bar in the PLEJA basket to carry outside. The REJSA and BYHOLMA make ideal pantry baskets, but they’re almost too cute to hide away.
From left to right, PLEJA, REJSA and BYHOLMA
7. DECORATIVE PILLOWS
For a budget redo of your living room, how about some new pillow covers. Start creating a new autumn vibe by swapping out old pillows with one of these new IKEA cushion covers. Super affordable way to change up a couch in an instant.
IKEA also has some of the best priced cushion or pillow inserts in polyester or feather fill. So if your pillows are saggy and ready to blow, upgrade to a new one!
Pair these cushion covers with SAGALIE pillow, ORMHASSEL, ANTOINETTA or KAVELDUN throw. Pillows from left to right, AINA, JUNHILD, SEGSTARR, SISSIL.
8. ACCENT RUG
If you’re not quite ready for a cowhide rug, then why not try a handmade woven rug in shades of blue and gray like this one. With this type of texture you get the cozy feels and don’t have to worry about matching any other patterns in the room.
Sometimes all you need is a little extra color under the coffee table or in front of the couch to pull the room together, but you don’t want a big splash of color or pattern. KÖPENHAMN can be the quiet star of the room.
The KÖPENHAMN is handwoven from 100% wool and available in 5’7 x 7’10”. You could also layer a cowhide rug over this one!
Pudervida Bedding is made from 100% linen and will get softer with every wash for that crumpled casual look. If you like a crisp look this may not be for you, but if you love a natural material that will keep you feeling cool in summer heat and cozy in the winter, you may love the PUDERVIDA duvet and pillow sham set. The ties add that organic touch.
PUDERVIDA is not the least expensive option at $119. for a king set, but you’re paying for 100% linen. Don’t worry you can still toss it in the washer and dryer. It’s available in 6 colors, and you can get sheets and pillowcases to match.
10. MÖCKLEBY DINING
The MÖCKLEBY dining table is perfect for those large family gatherings that can happen. Wouldn’t you love to be able to invite the whole fam over and know you had the room? Easily pair this large plank style table with colorful chairs like the ÖMTANKSAM side chair on each side. Mix it up a little with an upholstered chair like HENRIKSDAL or SAKARIAS at the ends of the table.
The MÖCKLEBY is 92 1/2″ long so easy to fit three chairs on each side, or a bench.
Construction is thick oak veneer over particle board. So not solid wood but then at this price – $629. – you wouldn’t expect that. As with most IKEA swaps, you still get the look you want at a great price.
When I had a full time interior design business, a lot of my fellow designers were snobby about using IKEA. But other than being crap at assembling flat pack furniture, I’m a fan. I really don’t think you can beat the value and affordable style of IKEA. Have fun with planning and decorating for the fall with these cozy new accents!
